The Actualité portal confirmed that among the detainees prominent social figures such as Bienvenu Matumo, an activist from the Lucha citizens’ movement, and an as yet unidentified journalist.

Just this Saturday, Kinshasa governor Gentiny Ngobila authorized three different political demonstrations: the pro-government Alliance of Congolese Progressives and the demonstration organized by the youth wing of the government party, the Union for Democracy and Social Progress.

The third demonstration currently underway is the one approved by the opposition alliance Envol, LGB, LAMUKA and Agrupación por la República, originally scheduled for 13 May but postponed to today due to security risk.

This latest march is led by prominent dissidents such as Moïse Katumbi, Delly Sesanga, Martin Fayulu and Matata Ponyo.
