MADRID, 26 May. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –
Dozens of activists demonstrated outside the Spanish Embassy in Brasilia this Thursday over racist attacks against Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr. last weekend.
Supported by more than 50 social organizations, participants in the protest demanded action, stating that “racism is not a joke, it is not a victimization, it is a crime”: “Anti-racism must be real: with practical actions, effective, energetic and strong”, informs news portal G1 .
This demonstration is also held as part of World Africa Day, so protesters called for “all people to unite in the fight” in honor of black ancestry.
A similar protest was held in front of the Spanish Consulate in Sao Paulo on Tuesday night, and dozens of people chanted “LaLiga racista” and demanded action from the Spanish authorities.
Vinicius was once again the target of racist attacks during Sunday’s match against Valencia CF at the Mestalla stadium, after which the player criticized both the sports authorities and Spanish fans for “normal racism” during the match.
Brazilian and Spanish officials have been in contact since the incident, and then Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares assured Brazil that “we are in no way in a situation of diplomatic conflict”. He also advocated going “to the end” against racism in football.
