Vatican’s diplomatic envoy leaves Nicaragua after diplomatic relations break


The European Union Delegation and representatives from the embassies of Germany, France and Italy in Nicaragua visited the Vatican Charge d’Affaires in Managua before Marcel Diouf left the country. – EUROPEAN UNION

The chargé d’affaires of the Apostolic Church in Managua, Monsignor Marcel Diouf, left the country and moved to Costa Rica after he began closing the diplomatic headquarters at the request of the Daniel Ortega regime.

As Vatican News reported on its website, Diouf left the country on Friday, March 17, and under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, custody of the Apostolic Church and its assets was given to the Italian Republic.

The closure of the Holy See’s diplomatic headquarters took place at the request of the Nicaraguan government on March 10, 2023. Before leaving, Monsignor Diouf was greeted by accredited diplomatic representatives in Nicaragua from the European Union, Germany, France. and Italy.
