LaLiga president Javier Tebas warned this Thursday that there can no longer be any kind of “sports” sanctions against FC Barcelona for the “Negreira case”, which has already prescribed such sanctions, and that they will appear “if an accusation in particular” when a complaint finally arrives from the prosecution, while making it clear that “these things cannot happen in Spanish football”.
Through a video on LaLiga’s official “Twitter” channels, Tebas offered “the position” of the employers after he had already seen “everything” about this matter involving the former vice president of the CTA José María Enríquez Negreira and the group Catalan and unveiled ‘Ser Catalunya’, to “pick out some clear issues”.
“The first is that it is clear that in 2018 and previous years the ‘compliance’ rules governing conflicts of interest from both the CTA and FC Barcelona did not work, as from what we have seen these services should not even have been provided in the first place. the amounts or the facts that have been provided,” he stated.
In this sense, the leader pointed out that although “there is talk that there may be sports sanctions”, the organization has already “studied that it is not possible because five years have passed from 2018 to 2023 and this type of sanctions prescribes the three years for”.
“Another thing is in terms of criminal jurisdiction, the Public Prosecutor’s Office investigates the facts and whether there may be corruption between individuals in the version of sports fixing,” added Javier Tebas.
The president of LaLiga indicated that they will wait and see “how this investigation ends”. “We’re going to respect it and once it’s over, if the prosecution decides to make the appropriate complaint. From there we’ll make the decision, if there’s a complaint, obviously we’ll have to appear as a private prosecutor and if there is not, the case will be filed,” he explained.
